About Us
Our Story
Scott and his wife moved to Baker City in July 2007 from Keller, TX, a suburb of Dallas / Fort Worth. After ten years in the business world, Scott felt convicted by God that it was time for a change. After much prayer, study, and discussion with friends, family and wise Christian mentors, Scott and his wife left the business world to serve the Lord in ministry.
After three years of study at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and another year of prayer, research and preparation God graciously provided the opportunity to start a new church through First Baptist Church of Keller, TX. Scott and his wife left Texas as a staff church planter of First Baptist Church Keller to start a new church in Baker City, OR – Blue Mountain Baptist Church.
Blue Mountain Baptist church is voluntarily associated with the Southern Baptist Convention. Through cooperation with millions of other Christians we seek to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with the world.
Our Mission
We believe the Bible is the word of God. We believe it to be absolutely true, inerrant, and sufficient for life. Any mission, vision, or purpose statement should come from God's word. We believe God describes our purpose in life in many different ways and places within the Bible. One of the clearest and most concise is in the seventeenth chapter of the Gospel of John. In short, our mission and purpose is this:
"Glorify God by knowing Him and making Him known".
The most important part of this is to truly knowing God through Jesus Christ. If we are truly known by God then we will most certainly be conformed into the image of Jesus in order to glorify Him and make Him known. This is all a miraculous work of God and in effect leaves no room for boasting. Out of gratitude for what God has done for us in Jesus Christ we joyfully tell others and love our neighbor all for His glory.
What We Believe
There are so many religions, denominations and beliefs here in Baker City today but which is true? Most believe what they were taught as children and what they know of other beliefs are typically characitures or inaccurate representations. Because one's beliefs are of eternal importance we have carefully compared our beliefs with other prominent beliefs in the Baker City area. Read our statement of faith or compare our beliefs with the faiths below.
Our Ministries
As a new church we are prayerfully seeking God's guidance in starting new ministries. We currently keep it simple. We worship together once a week and look for opportunities to serve God each day.
We started discipleship groups in October that are designed to help one another grow and mature in Christ. Feel free to visit any of our groups any time. Call if you have any questions.
