Because one's beliefs are of eternal importance we have carefully compared our beliefs with other prominent religions and beliefs in the Baker City area.
Preface
Ever been car shopping? Have you ever looked and looked for the exact make and model of car or truck you wanted, only to have someone point out the fact that a different make or model actually had better performance and features? You thought you knew everything there was to know about the vehicle you wanted, but you really didn't understand the distinctive characteristics until you compared it to another.
For many their understanding of their faith and beliefs fit this same scenario. They may understand what they have been taught or read, but don’t really understand how it compares to others. The following pages display head to head comparisons of some of our central beliefs with those of other faiths in the Baker area. We have limited it to the largest and most common groups with the greatest differences in doctrine and teaching.
A Word of Caution! The following comparisons are not perfect. However, in our attempt to present an even-handed accurate description of other points of view, all quotes, facts, and writings regarding other faiths are taken directly from official denominational documents, books, and statements written by individuals representing that particular faith. Where officially sanctioned material is unavailable, we have quoted from known scholarly writings or generally agreed upon statements of faith. All quotes are properly documented in the Bibliography for your viewing and research.
All Southern Baptists are not the same, nor are all individuals associated with other faiths. We understand and recognize these differences. However, it is impossible to present all of the various views within each faith. We have attempted to provide a well documented starting point for further discussion, research, and contemplation.
All comparisons are provided for further understanding and clarification of our beliefs. We do this in love, respect and truth. This is not meant as an attack upon the beliefs of others. If you find we have inaccurately quoted any of these sources, please document it with the corrected information and email us. We would be happy to correct any unintentional mistakes.
