What to Expect

Teaching & Preaching

The Bible reads in 2 Timothy 2: 2-3,

"Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear."

In 1 Timothy 4:13 it says,

"Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching."

There are times when preaching and teaching on a certain topic is extremely helpful. However, our goal is to teach and equip you. We believe the best way to do this is to simply go verse by verse through the entire Bible teaching and explaining Scripture while applying it to real life. It is called expository preaching.

We teach and preach out of various English translations of the Bible, referencing Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic texts when needed or helpful. We believe the original autographs were inspired, not a particular English translation.

Style of Worship

Almost everyone has some idea as to what “church” or a worship service should look and sound like, either through personal experience, books, movies, or television. Some may think of a large stone building with wonderful stain glass windows and strong wood pews with people silently praying together as they worship the Lord. For others a church service may be hymns with sermons that last no more than 30 minutes if you’re lucky. Still others may have vastly different experiences or ideas about worship. Nothing is wrong with different liturgies so long as Scripture is obeyed in the midst of it. In 1 Corinthians 14:40 in speaking about worship the Bible says,

"But all things should be done decently and in order."

At Blue Mountain Baptist Church we have a very relaxed and casual, but authentic worship service where we sing, pray, an honor the Lord in teaching and preaching God's word, the Bible. We seek to genuinely worship and glorify God in truth and spirit with a love for Him and one another.

Christian Unity

One Body Many Parts. A People of Grace, Forgiveness, Unity, Order, Fellowship & Truth. The Bible warns of many things. In 2 Corinthians 12:20 we read,

"For I am afraid that when I come I may not find you as I want you to be, and you may not find me as you want me to be. I fear that there may be quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder."

Unfortunately, many churches today have lost their love for God, one another, and their community. If anything the church must be marked by a love for our Creator and Savior and one another. At Blue Mountain Baptist church we wish serve God and share his love and grace with others by modeling it in our own lives and relationships, both together in worship and individually in daily life.

What to Wear

At Blue Mountain Baptist you can expect a warm, loving, honest atmosphere of worship. In 1 Peter 3:3-4 the Bible says,

"Do not let your adorning be external- the braiding of hair, the wearing of gold, or the putting on of clothing – but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious."

There is nothing inherently wrong with nice clothes, braided hair, or gold jewelry. The point God is making is that he isn't interested in external appearances. He is concerned with your heart. Dress however you like with modesty (1 Tim 2:9) when you come join us in worship. If you like jeans, wear them. If you like shorts, wear them. If you like pants, wear them. If you are just getting off work or going to work, come as you are. We aren't interested in changing your appearance. We want to see God transform your life.
